A Cool Movie from the 1980s!

Last week we watched a movie called 'The Princess Bride'. At first, everyone including me thought we were going to have such a bad time watching a movie from the 1980s. The only thing I thought about was all my self studying time I was wasting. The movie started, and all the boys were like, 'Oh god. Not a princess movie again.' And of course, it started  off with a kiss. But then, the boy who was listening to his grandfather tell the whole story to him started complaining about the kissing part, and that was when it started showing its genre of a comedy. The movie was actually very entertaining, and by the end I think I had a really good time.

The movie started off by showing love of a farm boy Westley and a peasant girl Buttercup. But one day, Westley leaves and Buttercup hears news of his death. Buttercup is heartbroken, and is forced to marry prince Humperdinck. However, Buttercup is suddenly kidnapped by three pirates and searches for help. Westley, who wasn't actually dead, disguises himself as a man in black and goes to save Buttercup. He beats Inigo at a sword fight, wins a fight against Fezzik the giant, and defeats Vizzini at a brain match to finally regain Buttercup. And of course, they started kissing again, but is interrupted by prince Humperdinck and his soldiers. They run into dangerous places such as the fire swamp and the lightening sand pit to hide from their chasers. However, they eventually get caught and Buttercup is again forced to marry prince Humperdinck while Westley gets tortured to death. However, hearing Westley scream out his last moan, Inigo  and Fezzik who admired Westley comes to rescue him. With the magical help of Miracle Max, they revive Westley and in the end tun away with Buttercup all together.
By only looking at the plot, you might think this movie is just another silly princess movie for little girls. However, they put so much into the movie that I found myself laughing without even knowing it. I also thought they had really good graphics for a movie made in the 1980s, although they still were quite lame from today's perspective.

The movie showed me a lot of things. It showed that love could be above everything, and cannot forcefully be made. Humperdinck was a prince while Westley was just a farm boy, but that did not stop the true love between Westley and Buttercup which was naturally formed. It also made me reflect myself on how everyone nowadays, maybe including me, thinks money or a job are one of the criteria to look at when we marry. while trues love should guide us.

The right images of a leader was found in the movie as well. Vizzini was smart, but treated Fezzik so badly just because he was a bit low on intelligence than others. A good leader will take care of all the people in his group with care. That is the sort of leader I wish to become.
The movie entertained me a lot, but also taught me various lessons. I wish to soak up all I could from the movie, and develop myself through it.

  2. I agree that this movie would have been a great hit back in the 1980s. I like how you organized your writing and thoughts. And I agree with your point on leadership. Leader should always care about his or her followers.
