Through Depression

Another morning at the Auschwitz. The sky is clear blue without any clouds, contrasting the tired, sleepy faces of the Jews who lined up to get a single bowl of leftover porridge. from yesterday. The clock rang to signal it was seven o'clock, and soon a siren rang which meant everyone had to come out to the main hall. At the hall, the Nazi instructor was waiting for everyone with a whip in his hand. Most of the Jews came on time, but some were caught trying to sneak in after seven.
"Another dreadful morning to meet you trash race, and you do not come on time? You idiots."
"But please, sir. We were at the back of the line, and we couldn't starve the baby another meal" one pleaded.
There was the cracking of a whip, and after a few more lashes they all went in without a word.
"Now I shall announce some good news for everyone." The instructor said with a mysterious grin. "First of all, individuals without a family may stay in their room. The rest will stay here, and for the first time of Auschwitz history, will participate in the Jew Olympic.  A round of applause!"
There was great silence in the hall, for no one really understood the meaning of the 'Olympic' here. When they said they were going to give a shower, they shoved everyone into a gas room and massacred them. So the people who left came out of the room relieved, while the rest were in fear trying to figure out what was going on.
"I said, a ROUND OF APPLAUSE" The instructor said with another crack of his whip. Everyone started clapping.
"Good. I thought I had to shoot everyone in the head to get my words through. So now, in order to choose what event you will participate in, grab a piece of paper out of this box."

If you would like to swim, take this paper.
If you would like to do fencing, take this paper.
If you would like to run, take this paper.

  1. Cool story. I actually read all three of the endings and I liked all of them. Great job with your creative writing John. I think it could have been better if your story was longer than this so that it had more details.
